Wine
Passion for wine
My interest in wine started two years ago when I was trying to fill in the gaps of my time in the evenings. I was working hard, more than the normal eight hours, to try to make the most out of the experience I was having with project management, programming and SEO. In the evenings though, I wanted to do something different that could help me feel that I'm doing more with my time. Wine was perfect! I know alcohol is not good for you specially if drank regularly every day. "I will try a different wine every Friday" I thought. And so I did...
Not much money? My wife wants to drink a little bit as well? Is it cold outside?
All these questions started popping in my mind and wine started to become something I could finally understand. It is not about right or wrong... Red or white... Sweet or oaky... It was about taste, my taste and what was available to me!
Yes I finally realised that wine is selfish. There is no need to like all French wines or to think that Valpolicella is type of grape. French wines are good when they are expensive and Valpolicella is a region in Italy where difference grape varieties are turned into wine. This is probablybthe most dificult part for a beginner, to understand, from the bottle label, what is the grape, the region and the name of the winery. Once you are over that, you are halfway to become a "wine picker". "Wine picker" is the person who can choose the right wine for the right people with less than £20 (as per the year 2010 rates). This person won't know the best time to harvest granacha grapes in Spain or the name of old wineries but will choose the best wine among the other bottles on the table for a dinner party.
Did you know Brazil and Thailand are great wine producing countries? Did you know that Portuguese has a much stronger tradition in wine making than Austalia, Argentina or Chile? Although some of these questions look obvious, they aren't for someone who is just starting in the enology world.
Bellow you will find some of the best wines I've tasted in my wine knowledge journey, and the Spanish from Rioja are my favourite.
Enjoy!
